SHUFFLEBOARD IN ADVERTISING
After the introduction of court shuffleboard in Florida in 1913, the game became an almost instant success. Resorts, hotels and retirement communities began installing shuffleboard courts and promoting the game to future customers.

The game's popularity really exploded in the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and 60's, and many companies began using shuffleboard's appeal in their magazine advertisements. They usually depicited playing shuffleboard with the "good life" or having "fun." Just as it is today....100 years later.

Everything from aspirin, cruises, beer and girdles were featured with images of shuffleboard players. There was even a shuffleboard sports card published by Sportscaster promoting the game. Calendars, match book covers, home remodeling, traveler’s checks, toothpaste and sneakers were all advertised with the shuffleboard theme.

There was even a German ad for Chuck-Chuck shuffleboard. Who knew?  Kodak movie cameras, deodorant, camera film, flooring and an ad pitching Florida vacations were all used with shuffleboard images.

This coming year we are about to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Shuffleboard, wouldn't it be nice if a company were to pick up on our court shuffleboard Centennial celebration theme and advertise in Florida in 2013.

Below are a few images of shuffleboard used in advertising I found and thought were interesting. Hope you enjoy.
