In 1999 Steve Biaggi presided on behalf of the Lee County Shuffleboard Club, over the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new Lee County Shuffleboard Complex in North Fort Myers.

Four years later, Steve felt we should have roof overs for our courts. So off Steve went to the County Commissioners office and met with the Commissioner at that time along with 4 or 5 Park Officials asking them for roof overs for our complex. After hearing his sad story about skin cancer from the sun’s rays, the wear and tear on our courts from the weather etc., he was told “we will be paying off for the New Football Field for the next 6 years”, and so Steve was given a polite sorry and a handshake and was sent home.

Since 2003 Steve has met with every commissioner, discussing the roof overs. The last meeting, in the spring of 2021, was with our present Commissioner Brian Hamman.

In September 2021 Commissioner Hamman called to speak to Steve, telling him “We have budgeted $650,000 to provide Roof overs for the 24 shuffleboard courts.”

Steve with his wife Helen attended the Commissioners budget meeting that month and witnessed the 5 Lee County District Commissioners approval of the project.

After speaking to Jesse Lavender (Head of Parks and Recreation Dept), to not interfere with our tournament season, the construction will begin in May of 2022 and will hopefully be completed by September 2022.

Steve personally thanked all 5 Commissioners on behalf of himself and the Lee County Shuffleboard Club as well as the Florida Southern District and of course the Florida Shuffleboard Association.
It took 18 years, but like a shuffleboard game Steve........ NEVER GAVE UP!

‘NEVER GIVE UP’
I speaking with Helen Biaggi yesterday and she mentioned this. I asked her if she would write a story  to post on our website.
Congratulations to Steve and the Bradenton Shuffleboard Club and thanks to Helen.
